HAFC PORTABILITY INFORMATION

INCOMING (Porting into the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA -HAFC)
  • You must notify your initial housing authority that you would like to port to the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC)
  • You must have 45-60 days of search time on your initial voucher. This will allow you adequate search time to find a unit in the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC)
  • jurisdiction without the worry of losing your voucher.
  • If you have less than 45 days of search time on your initial voucher, you must request in writing to your initial housing authority for an extension on your voucher prior to porting to the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC)
  • The Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC) is not absorbing and will be billing the initial housing authority.
  • All Portability paperwork can be sent via the following methods:

  • The Payment Standards of the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC) is used to determine the amount of rent that the housing authority will pay on a family’s behalf once a unit is leased. IT IS NOT THE VOUCHER AMOUNT. The voucher amount will be determined at the scheduled briefing only.
  • Effective October 1, 2016, HUD regulated the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC)’s voucher subsidy standards to be two (2) heart beats per bedroom, no matter the sex or age. For example, if there is a total household of 2 persons, then the family will be issued a one (1) bedroom voucher. If there is a total household of 4 persons, then the family will be issued a two (2) bedroom voucher. The Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC) will not add, remove, or provide reasonable accommodations (i.e., request for live-in aides, extra bedrooms, etc.) when first porting in. If needed, the request must be completed and approved at your initial housing authority prior to porting to the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC). NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Effective October 1, 2023
    • Head of household and spouse will share a room.
    • Head of Household without a spouse, will share a bedroom with a minor child under the age of 5.
    • Minor children that are 5 or older will share a bedroom with the same sex, two per room
  • Before contacting the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC) to confirm receipt of your Portability packet, please contact your initial housing authority to verify when and how the packet was sent to the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC).
  • You must prepare to have housing accommodations for at least 45 to 60 days prior to being leased in a new unit in the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC)’s jurisdiction. This is due to any possible obstacles that may occur because of finding a unit that is affordable, security deposits, first month’s rent, transportation, etc.
    • When your portability paperwork has been received, the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC) will schedule a briefing appointment within ten (10) business days from receipt of the portability paperwork. Briefing appointments are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis and are not negotiable. 
  • The date set for the appointment is the date made due to availability. The appointment will be mailed only to the address provided in the portability paperwork. If you will be vacating or have vacated the unit, please provide your initial housing authority with a forwarding address, phone number and email address prior to porting to the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC) to ensure that you receive your appointment in a timely manner. 
OUTGOING (Porting from the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA – HAFC)
  • You must provide in writing a sixty (60) day notice to vacate the unit to your assigned housing specialist and current Landlord.
  • Complete and return a Portability Transfer Request form.
  • You must settle all debts (i.e., unpaid rent, fees for tenant-caused damages, early termination fees, etc.) with your current Landlord and provide documented proof of settlement before your portability request is granted and processed.
  • After receipt of documented settlement, the Housing Authority of Fulton County, GA (HAFC) will contact participant to schedule Move-out briefing to begin portability process.
  • Processing of the portability paperwork will take up to ten (10) business days to prepare and be sent via email and fax to the requested housing authority.
  • You will receive confirmation via email or phone (if email is not available), when the portability paperwork has been sent to the requested housing authority and when to contact the requested housing authority to verify receipt of the portability paperwork and the next steps to take to complete the portability process.
